Want to help storm victims? Look no further than Facebook

NORTHERN KENTUCKY (FOX19) -

A group of people in Northern Kentucky has spent the last five days updating more than just their status. They're coordinating disaster relief via Facebook.

More than 2,300 people are part of their group, "Coordination of help for NKY victims of 3.2.12 tornado."

Susette Reinhart of Richwood started the page after Friday's deadly storms.  Lisa Raterman saw it, and became a frequent visitor. Soon, comments were all over the page, and Reinhart, a busy stay-at-home mom, made Raterman and six other frequent visitors admins on the page.  It has exploded since then.

On the page, you'll find threads for what supplies are urgently needed, and where.  Also, there's information for people who want to volunteer, details on fundraisers, and a place to share photos and stories about the storms' impact.

Raterman, who doesn't actually "know" Reinhart, nor the other page administrators, says it's been weird, but amazing to watch people come together and help via social media.

"In the old days you just had to drive around and check on people or stop in at locations," she said. "With this kind of resource, having social media platforms available, it's just sped up the process of being able to say, hey, if you have a truckload of something, here's where it needs to go now, and people are able to switch directions and get there."

Find the group's Facebook page here.
