Ala. House resolution: money growing on trees

Posted: Updated:

A resolution has been introduced in the Alabama House that appears to be making fun of efforts by Gov. Robert Bentley and Republican legislative leaders to create jobs in Alabama.

The resolution by Democratic Rep. Daniel Boman of Sulligent makes several wild claims, including that scientists will soon be able to grow money on trees and that large classes are good for students because they allow them to "make more friends."

The chairman of the agenda-setting House Rules Committee, Republican Rep. Blaine Galliher of Rainbow City, said Boman's resolution is "inappropriate and unprofessional" and is "going nowhere."

The Alabama Education Association has said the jobs incentives would take money from classrooms.

Boman is a former Republican who changed parties last session.

He did not return calls seeking comment Monday.
