CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say their goal during the week of the CIAA basketball tournament was to keep everyone safe. And, despite an estimated crowd of 200,000, they say they did just that.

In a statement released, this morning, department officials say there were no major incidents during the four-day tournament, which ends today. However, they did point out an incident unrelated to the tournament just before midnight Sunday. They say officers arrested an unnamed person who allegedly fired a shot at an Alcohol Law Enforcement Agent's vehicle at the corner of Stonewall Street and Kenilworth Avenue. Police say it appears the ALE agent was not targeted and no one was hurt.

While they may not have had to deal with any major incidents, officers still had their hands full. They arrested 31 people for various charges, including nine for disorderly conduct.

Officers were also busy with traffic detail. A WBTV photographer captured video of a long line of traffic at an obscure hour, 3 a.m. on Sunday, at I-277/I-77 interchange.
