Whole Foods looking for local vendors

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - For years, Charlotte foodies clamored for a Whole Foods Market - Now they'll finally get one this Summer.

The news is good for gourmet eaters, but its even better for the local economy.

If you're a farmer or you make a product locally, use North Carolina or regional ingredients, than we're looking for you," says Whole Foods' Darrah Horgan.

Whole Foods has been supporting the local food movement since its inception in 1980, long before it became cool to do so.

"We do support these local producers, and we seek them out, and it's something we want on our shelves," Horgan says.

On Monday, Whole Food buyers invited local vendors to show them what they've got, but Horgan says opportunities are still available.

"People can certainly reach out to us via our website," she says. "There's a whole page devoted to local producers and quality standards. There's a vendor application. It's all on there."
