CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Henry Hirschmann, 92, came to share his story of survival at the Northwest School of the Arts Wednesday. Hirschmann is a survivor of the Holocaust.

At 18-years-old, the Nazis took him from his family's home to the Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He has made it his mission to make sure the world never forgets.

"It is especially important because there are people in this country and all over the world who claim the Holocaust did not happen, but I am only one of the witnesses to the Holocaust," Hirschmann said. Because had there not been a Holocaust I might not have been in this country and I am grateful that I am."

Mr. Hirschmann was so grateful to be in the United States he joined the Army soon after her arrived, and returned to Europe to fight in WWII.

WBTV Primetime Anchor Maureen O'Boyle emceed the event.
