PINEVILLE, NC (WBTV) - A 14-year-old boy from Chester, SC was killed and five other people injured when their SUV was side-swiped on Interstate 485 at South Boulevard.

The N. C. Highway Patrol was called at 11:40 p.m. Friday night. Family members told WBTV that a mom in a Chevy Trailblazer was driving five children home from bowling and dinner when the accident happened.

She told troopers that she was driving in the southbound inner lane when a white car passed her on the shoulder and side-swiped her Chevy. It caused her to lose control and flip over.

The 14-year-old, identified as David Bell Jr., was thrown out of the SUV. Two other children were also ejected.

"We know everything happens for a purpose and for a reason...and we thank God for the 14 years that he allowed us to have DJ and now he's in a better place," Bell's cousin Albert Suber said.

The driver, and four other children, ages 6 to 15, were taken to the hospital with broken bones. They are expected to be okay.

14 year old Devonte Sanders has a lot of bumps, bruises, and scrapes. His knee is swollen and suffers from a concussion but most of all today he has a broken heart after losing a best friend.

"I didn't feel anything but a bunch of crashes and turns, flips I blacked out I don't remember nothing else after that," said Sanders.

Sanders says he was riding in the back of the Chevy Trail blazer when it rolled over, and was thrown out of the rear window. He says the next thing he remembers was waking up in the hospital.

"I was asking all kinds of questions like what's wrong with Jaylen what's wrong with Justin. Then I asked what's wrong with DJ," said Sanders. "They told me he was dead."

Monday Sanders was at home resting his wounds and coping with the loss of his best friend.

"If you ever needed someone to talk to or if you wanted to play around, DJ was right there," said Sanders.

Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver in a white car, possibly a Lexus, with damage to its right side. If you have information, call police.

"I think somebody probably saw it, and they need to step and They saw a tag or what ver. I just hope they catch them," said Sanders.
