CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The neighbors of a man arrested after police say he exposed himself to women in Charlotte while riding a bicycle say they never saw any warning signs.
Police charged 36-year-old Michael Wayne Adams Monday with exposing himself to women in the Dilworth community.
His neighbor Prince Pegeses told WBTV he had no idea what Adams was up to.
"He was telling me how he was trying to keep himself out of trouble and trying to do the right thing for the right reason but I think all of that was pretty much undercover," he said.
Police say Adams exposed himself to a woman on January 25, 2012, across the street from Dilworth Elementary School as he was riding his bicycle in the area.
Additionally, Adams has been charged with public masturbation and indecent exposure in a February 5, 2012, case in which he exposed himself to a woman walking her dog as he rode his bicycle in the 400 block of East Park Avenue.
The 33-year-old female victim told police she was walking her dog when the suspect "exposed his private area as he rode by her on his bicycle."
Mary Collins, another neighbor said, "wow, that's a hard pill to swallow."
Adams was arrested around 2:00 p.m. on Monday without incident at his home in the 400 block of Linwood Avenue in Northwest Charlotte.
He has been charged with two counts of indecent exposure and one count of public masturbation.
Pegeses also said he is glad that Adams is off the street.
'That was in the Dilworth area but it could have been in any area," he said.
Investigators are also working to determine if Adams was responsible for several other similar incidents in Charlotte-Mecklenburg recently.
According to police, there was another incident on February 1 at 2000 South Boulevard around 3:30 p.m.
In that case, a 57-year-old woman said that a man was exposing himself while in a public area. Police are investigating if Adams is connected to a second incident on February 5, just a few blocks from Johnson and Wales University.
The incident happened less than 2 hours after the incident that Adams was charged with, along the 500-block of South Cedar Street at 2:03 pm, police say.
A 30-year-old woman told police that the suspect exposed himself riding a bicycle at the time of the indecent exposure.
Adams has a history of charges with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. He has charges of breaking and entering, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, intoxicated and disruptive, resisting arrest, assault and larceny.
Anyone with additional information concerning these cases is asked to call Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
