LINCOLNTON, NC (WBTV) - A Lincolnton man has been charged with murder after police say he called 911 and said his girlfriend had died while he was sleeping on the couch.
According to Lincolnton Police, 41-year-old Jerry Alvin Black, Junior, called 911 on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. and told the dispatcher that his girlfriend was dead.
He told dispatchers that he fell asleep on the couch Thursday night and when he woke up, she was dead, police say.
When officers arrived at the couple's Untold Way home, they found the body of 42-year-old Jennifer Lee Costner.
According to officers and investigators from the State Bureau of Investigations, it appears that Costner had been murdered. She had blunt force trauma to her head and multiple cut and stab wounds to her body.
WBTV has learned that Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem will perform an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
Officers say Black, who was home when investigators arrived, has a history of assaults on females, drug use, and sexual assault.
He was charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Lincoln County jail without bond.
