CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Mecklenburg County leader has announced that he has a new battle to face, cancer.
Mecklenburg County Manager Harry Jones, Senior sent an email to the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners Friday morning to inform them that he is battling pancreatic cancer.
The email was sent at 7:41 a.m. Friday morning, updating the commissioners about his health.
In December, Jones had informed the board that he had been diagnosed with a medical condition that would require extensive treatment.
"The treatments for pancreatic cancer continue," Jones told the board Friday morning. "I feel well and am working from the office regularly, as well as continuing to exercise and play golf. As my family and I pursue recovery, I know you will continue to respect my privacy."
In his morning email, Jones thanked the board for their prayers, thoughts and well wishes.
"This generous outpouring of expression and affection from County employees, as well as from friends, family members and colleagues in our community and across the country, is greatly appreciated by me and my family," Jones said.
The message was sent to all county employees later Friday morning.
