SPARTANBURG, SC (WBTV) - A Spartanburg County woman was arrested after she reportedly tried to throw her dog out with the trash.
According to WSPA, a garbage man making his Thursday morning rounds found the black and white shih tzu inside the woman's trash can.
The woman reportedly said the dog was not her, but then admitted that it was, and removed the dog from the trash can.
WSPA said the garbage man called Spartanburg County Animal Control officials about the incident.
When officials arrived at the woman's home, they noticed the trash can was moving, the TV station said.
When they opened the lid, the same dog the garbage man first saw was staring back at up them.
Investigators say the dog seems to be fine, aside from a pre-existing skin condition, according to WSPA.
The dog, now called Oreo, is now reportedly being held at the Greenville County Animal Care Center.
Oreo will have to stay at the shelter for five days before being considered for adoption.
