SHELBY, NC (WBTV) - A Shelby teenager is behind bars after police say he cut a woman's throat after she returned home from church.
According to police, 32-year-old Lindsay Wood had just returned to her Royster Avenue home with her son last Wednesday when she was grabbed from behind and a knife was put against her throat.
Officers say someone, later identified as 16-year-old Miguel Lopez, then cut Wood on the neck and ran from the house.
Officers say Lopez and an unidentified 15-year-old boy were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case.
Lopez has been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Attempted Murder, Secret Assault and First Degree Kidnapping. Lopez was placed in the Cleveland County Jail without bond.
The juvenile in this case was placed into custody at the Shelby Police Department and charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder and Attempted Murder. Due to his age, no further information can be released about the juvenile.
Police say they determined that both suspects knew the Wood; however, the extent of their relationship is not being released at this time. According to police, there was no gang involvement or ties to any gang activity.
The case has been turned over to the District Attorney's Office for prosecution, so no further details about the case are available for release at this time.
