Car fire threatens homes in a neighborhood, cops say it was arson

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Neighbors called emergency crews after spotting a flames billowing from a car parked near their homes.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers on scene said it was lucky none of the homes in the area caught fire, after a car burned up along the street.

Witnesses along Redbud Street near Booker Avenue in the north Charlotte area spotted a Ford Focus engulfed in flames around midnight Tuesday.

Fire fighters were able to knock down the flames, and officials said they were able to determine pretty quickly this was an arson case.  However they declined to give much further information.

The car according to the CMPD was registered in Maryland, but not reported stolen.

No one was found in or around the vehicle at the time, and police are currently searching for the driver of the vehicle.
