Courthouse reopens after losing water supply

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Mecklenburg County Courthouse reopened Monday afternoon after a water main break caused morning problems.

The health department evacuated the courthouse around 9:30 Monday morning because the courthouse had no water.

The water main break is at the corner of 3rd and McDowell Streets, according to a city spokesman.

The problem also affected the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The hotel's manager said several guests had to be relocated to other hotels and the hotel's restaurant couldn't open until 3p.m.

The water supply was restored by 2p.m.  Court officials will mail letters to people who missed the morning sessions and need to reschedule.

CMUD crews used a temporary fix to repair the eight-inch water main break.

A full repair will occur during the overnight hours.
