CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Forget about Punxsatawney Phil seeing his shadow, Queen Charlotte checked the weather herself Thursday afternoon.
The pudgy groundhog saw her shadow which means six means week of winter for Charlotte.
The Charlotte Nature Museum is celebrating Groundhog Day with an afternoon full of events.
Visitors celebrated the age old tradition of Groundhog Day and see if resident groundhog, Queen Charlotte, predicts an early spring or not, according to a release from the museum.
Queen Charlotte's court was made up of other animals that share traits or shelter with the groundhog.
A groundhog's internal clock is believed to be affected by annual changes in the amount of daylight. Hormonal responses to cyclic changes in production of melatonin, a sleep-related hormone, are thought by some to be the signal for them to wake up.
The events ran from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. with the shadow check at 4:30 p.m.
