ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - A Rock Hill man has been found dead inside his home, days after police believe he was assaulted.

According to police, officers were called by family members around 3:05 p.m. on Thursday afternoon to do a welfare check on a man in his 60s.

When officers arrived at a home along the 300 block of Orr Drive, family members had already gone inside the home and found the body of 64-year-old Alexander "Boots" Hardin, a Rock Hill police report states.

Neighbor Corey Minton told officers that he had not heard from Hardin for a few days and was worried about him. Hardin's girlfriend and her daughter went into the home with Minton before officers arrived, the report states.

Officers told them to leave the home and began their investigation.

According to the report, Hardin's body was found on the floor near the front door "with blood coming from his head."

Police say it appears Hardin may have been assaulted and say it looks as if his body has been inside the home for several days.

One of Hardin's brothers was at the home and told officers that Hardin had recently lost a large amount of money, nearly $5,000.

Another family member told officers that Hardin's son lived at the home with Hardin and recently had "a falling out with his father," the report states. The family told officers that they had not seen Hardin's son in the past several day.

Officers are actively investigating the case.
