Keeping your home safe during Holiday travel

MATTHEWS, NC (WBTV) - Burglars and thieves are on the prowl during the Holiday season, we've got a few things you can do to make your home less vulnerable while you're away.

Sgt. Stason Tyrrell with the Matthews Police Department says crooks are looking for a house where no one is home.

He suggests telling neighbors you're heading out of town so they can keep an eye on your house. He also says to set timers inside the house so lights randomly turn off and on. Sgt. Tyrrell also suggests putting a TV on a timer to.

And burglars don't like light. Try installing motion detectors around the outside of your property and leaving outside lights on.

Nothing can make your home burglar proof, but these few simple tips might help keep you from becoming a victim.
