RALEIGH, NC (WRAL) — Someone donated a
diamond ring and a wedding band to the Salvation Army of Wake County
over the weekend, the charity told WRAL-TV on Monday.
The rings -- which are at least the 3rd and 4th left in kettles in the state -- were
found wrapped in a $10 bill in one of the nonprofit's red kettles, WRAL reported. The
group is having the rings appraised to find out the value, the TV station said.
Money placed in the kettles supplements the charity's toy and clothing donations.
Salvation Army representatives said the rings are encouraging since Raleigh-area donations have been down 10 percent over the past year, WRAL reported.
Earlier this month a mystery donor left the Salvation Army in Hendersonville giddy with
the Christmas spirit after he or she
donated a diamond ring and gold wedding band.
The Salvation Army volunteers were counting the contents of
their red kettles on Dec. 8 when
they came across the unusual donation.
Wrapped inside a
dollar bill was a ladies 14-karat gold wedding band and diamond engagement
ring, along with an appraisal note.
The gift was dropped in the kettle at a Fresh Market
supermarket.
