Man dies from gunshot wound at Mooresville gun range

MOORESVILLE, NC (WBTV) - A man died at a Mooresville shooting range Tuesday afternoon, police say.

Mooresville police responded to the Point Blank Range located at 743 River Highway at around 2:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Mooresville Police Department.

Police found a man who was suffering from a single gunshot wound.

EMS responded immediately to assist the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police determined that the 59-year-old man shot himself intentionally, and have decided not to release his name.

Co-owner of Point Blank Range, Jim Litsey, released a statement...expressing his condolences to the family, and said;

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic event that occurred at our range today and we offer our prayers and condolences to his family.

Our organization is committed to the safety of our patrons, members and staff and has in place protocols designed to mitigate the potential for any intentional or accidental shooting.

Today, our highly trained staff followed those protocols and implemented other procedures to ensure that the safety of the other patrons in the range was not compromised.

Again, we would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family for their loss."
