CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives say they have charged a man with murder in the violence that erupted inside a motorcycle club meeting Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses said a gunman walked into the meeting of the Outcast Motorcycle Club on the 1100 block of Commercial Avenue around 2:25 p.m. and started firing at the victim.

By mid-afternoon Monday, police said that they had a suspect in custody and that he was a member of the Outcast Motorcycle Club.

Jamie Reney Knox, 47, was arrested earlier Monday without incident in Kannapolis, police said.

Knox was charged with the murder of Chapel Bernard Waymyers and is currently at CMPD Headquarters.

These club meetings are known throughout the biker community as "church."

According to a police report,  Waymyers, 40, of Charlotte, was killed in the shooting.

The suspect and Waymyers knew each other, according to police.

Waymyer's son told WBTV he was married and had three sons. They're devastated by the murder.

Officers are quick to point out they do not consider the Outcast Motorcycle Club to be a gang in the traditional sense.

They also say there are at least ten of these types of clubs in the Charlotte area, most they consider non-violent.
