A man convicted of wounding a Phoenix police officer in 2011 has been sentenced in the crime.
On Friday, a judge sentenced Joseph Sandoval to 87 years in prison. Five officers involved in the shooting testified in court Friday.
Police said Sandoval, 27, opened fire on the officer as police entered a trailer that appeared to have been broken into in a trailer park in the 3000 block of E. Van Buren Street on Nov. 26, 2011.
Sandoval was out of prison for 15 days before the shooting.
Sandoval was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, serious physical injury assault and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
The 30-year-old officer suffered life-threatening wounds and was unable to return to full duty for months.
