HICKORY, NC (WBTV) - Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was scheduled to appear before a Catawba County judge Monday morning.

Mayfield's court appearance on Monday was originally scheduled before he was indicted and was to be a probable cause hearing. Since Mayfield was indicted after Monday's court date was set, the court appearance was canceled. An indictment would essentially supercede a probable cause hearing.

Last week, Mayfield was indicted by a state grand jury on drug charges after a raid of his home the week before.

Mayfield was indicted by the grand jury  for felony possession of methamphetamine. Deputies say they found 6 baggies of meth in his home during a search they did on Nov. 1 for stolen goods.

Although they say they found stolen property in the home, Mayfield was not charged with possession of stolen property or any charges other than drugs.

A warrant for the search of Mayfield's home tells how police worked, for about a month, with a tipster who told them Mayfield and about four others would break in to different businesses and steal.

The warrant says that this type of criminal activity has been going on for about a year.

More charges may be filed in Mayfield's cases, sources tell WBTV.

WBTV's Steve Ohnesorge has been following the story since it broke and will have the latest when it becomes available.
