PSI Monday: How'd they get your number?

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Claudia Tate was on her way home from work when she fell victim to a chain reaction crash triggered by a CMPD cruiser.

The accident happened around dinner time, by breakfast the next morning her phone was ringing.

"They were calling on behalf of the city," said Tate.

It was a body shop, not the city, on the phone. The caller told her she should bring her car down right away.

Jim Weaving who works in the records office at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department says he's heard the story before.

"The complaints I get are people's cells are ringing off the hook within hours of the accident," said Weaving.

Who are these people? How do they get your number and how are they responding so quickly after an accident?
