GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - An Ashbrook High School student made his first court appearance Wednesday after authorities say he sexually assaulted another student.
Damitri Mitchell, 16, appeared by video in the Gaston County Courthouse.
His mother made a plea for her son before the judge before she collapsed to the floor, over come with emotion.
"Damitri is a good kid, he respects his teachers and elders and this incident, yes he was in there...," she said, before falling to the floor, as family and friends gathered around her.
Prosecutors say they have a videotaped confession from Damitri Mitchell and surveillance video that shows the victim, right after the alleged assault.
Mitchell's bond was reduced from $250,000 to $50,000.
