CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The high school student struck by a car in West Charlotte Monday morning, has died from her injuries, a hospital spokesperson confirmed.

Kayla Jackson, 15, was walking along the 4400 block of Tuckaseegee Road around 8:30 Monday when she walked into the path of an oncoming car, police said.

Police said the driver, Ivory Gabriel-Brown, swerved to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. Gabriel-Brown stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

MEDIC rushed Jackson to CMC Main with what were initially described as life-threatening injuries.

Based on the initial investigation, Gabriel-Brown was not texting and was not on the phone at the time of the collision, police said. However, police said Jackson was wearing headphones at the time of the incident.
