4 West Meck high students hurt in hit and run crash

Charlotte, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say four West Meck High students were injured Friday night when a driver purposefully drove his car through a crowd of people.

All four were taken to the hospital with what MEDIC describes as non-life threatening injuries.

The hit and run happened a little after 10 p.m. outside a Family Dollar in a shopping center at the corner of Little Rock Road and Tuckaseegee Road.

Witnesses say two crowds of people were fighting and arguing when the hit and run happened.

Police say some in the crowd were actually throwing rocks at the car before the driver drove into the crowd.

As of late Friday night police had still not found the car, which is described as a blue, two-door Honda.  Police believe there were four or five people inside.

Police say they believe the incident may have been gang related.  A gang officer was called to the scene to help investigate.

The incident happened shortly after the end of West Meck High's homecoming football game, which was played about a mile west of the incident at the school, which is on Tuckaseegee Road.
