KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) - A man who was stopped by the NC Highway Patrol ended up fleeing them twice and then leading them on a 3 county high-speed chase before eventually being caught on Wednesday, troopers said.

The incident began in Rowan County when Trooper SV Marshall stopped a tan Toyota Camry on I-85 south at the 75 mile marker, troopers said.

The car was stopped first around 1:30 pm because the driver was following too close and wasn't wearing a seat belt, troopers told WBTV.

When trooper checked the driver's license,  he learned the driver's license was revoked and told man he couldn't drive -- and someone would have to come and get him, troopers said.

Dominique Mobley, 22, of Charlotte, was then cited for those offenses, troopers said.

Then, instead of waiting for someone to get him,  Mobley then drove off and trooper pursued and stopped him a second time, troopers said.

The trooper then told Mobley he couldn't drive.

But, then, Mobley then took off again, and trooper gave chase with several other troopers through Rowan County, through Cabarrus County into Mecklenburg, troopers say.

The cars on the ground stopped the chase because CMPD helicopter picked up the path of car.

Troopers say car was found on Kelsey Lane around 2 pm.  Mobley was arrested a short time later at a BP station on The Plaza, troopers say.

Charges are pending regarding the chase.
