Another woman who was pregnant and involved in the wreck, remains in the hospital, troopers say.
The wreck happened Sunday night in Catawba County, when the driver of a car changed lanes and crashed into a Jeep Cherokee, the NC Highway Patrol told WBTV.
Both cars went off Highway 321 north of Highway 10 near Newton and flipped over.
The car, a Volkswagen Passat, landed on its wheels with the Jeep on its hood, the NC Highway Patrol said.
The passenger in the Passat, 21-year-old Jennifer Justice, was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene. Justice was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
Two people from the Jeep, including the pregnant woman, are still in the hospital.
The driver of the VW, 27-year-old Tyler Shull, has been charged with DWI and felony death by motor vehicle, the Highway Patrol said.
Justice, who was a student at Gaston College, indicates on Facebook that her boyfriend is Shull.
Troopers told WBTV that the pregnant woman is Brooke Shipman, 22. CMC-Main told WBTV that Brooke Shipman is in fair condition.
On her Facebook page, Justice has dozens of Bible scripture quotes. She also mentions visiting the beach and her boyfriend.
"I'm so happy with Tyler I'm very blessed," she wrote two weeks ago, just four days after indicating on Facebook she was in a relationship with Shull.
One of her favorite quotes on Facebook is: "Live everyday as if it were your last..."
