Woman dies in flipped SUV after hitting school bus

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A woman died after the SUV she was driving collided with a school bus in east Charlotte Thursday afternoon.

The wreck occurred at 4 p.m. at the intersection of North Sharon Amity Road and Milton Road.

Ana Delia Rodriguez-Umana, 34, was driving a 1996 Honda Passport SUV.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Rodriguez-Umana ran a red light.

When the light turned green, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg School bus started into the intersection and struck the SUV in the passenger side. Bus No. 633 had just left Devonshire Elementary School with about 50 students on board.

The SUV flipped and came to a rest on its roof.

Several students were on the bus but none of them were injured.

Rodriguez-Umana was the only person in the SUV and she died at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
