Drag racer dies during qualifying at Rockingham Dragway

ROCKINGHAM, NC (WBTV) - A drag racer was killed Friday night during a qualifying session at the Rockingham Dragway.

According to the dragway's web site, Bert Jackson, 51, was driving an Extreme Pro Stock 2007 Pontiac GTO during the third qualifying session of the American Drag Racing League's (ADRL) Dragstock VIII at the dragway when his car wreck.  

Jackson, of Glen Allen, VA., was rushed to nearby First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital where he died a short time later.

According to track side observers, his car first hit the right guard wall, then careened across the track and hit the left guard wall before starting a series of barrel rolls.

Jackson was the driver of a car owned by Enoch Love of Richmond, VA.
