INDIAN LAND, SC (WBTV) - A Lancaster County man is facing charges after police say firefighters found a marijuana growing operation inside a burning building Tuesday night.

Sheriff's deputies were called to 126 Dogwood Trail around 8:30 p.m. When they arrived, several fire departments were already on the scene extinguishing the fire.

The deputy spoke with the owner of the building, Darwin Rossi, who said no one was inside the building at the time. Rossi, 62, said some people used to rent the building.

When the fire was out, firefighters said it appeared it was sparked by an electrical malfunction.

The police report says firefighters also found "equipment commonly used for growing marijuana and several marijuana plants."

Rossi was charged with growing and manufacturing marijuana, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The sheriff's office says additional charges could be filed against Rossi.
