CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The outside, eastbound lane of Sardis Road North will close for utility work on Wednesday, August 17.
The closure will affect traffic on Sardis Road North between Monroe Road and Independence Boulevard. All work is scheduled to be completed in the off-peak hours, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Crews will be working in the area to clean the sewer line, as part of a larger effort to keep the lines clear of grease and other obstructions in the system.
Karen Whichard, a spokesperson for CMUD says, "Over time, kitchen grease and other fats, oils and greases that are poured down drains enter the sewer system and clog pipes as the grease hardens. These blockages can send wastewater backwards out of manholes and eventually untreated into our waterways."
All work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, August 19.
Motorists can use N.C. Highway 51 as an alternate route in the mean time.
