CHARLOTTE (WBTV) – Passengers aboard a flight from Spain made it home today after an emergency diversion to Boston Saturday.

Passengers describe seeing a smoky haze in the aircraft after hearing an alarm sounding in the plane's bathroom.

"The captain talked to us and said we were going to stop at the nearest airport, which happened to be Boston," says Andrew Kohler, a student aboard the flight.

He says immediately after touching down in Boston the plane was greeted by emergency officials.  Kohler says the officials checked the aircraft then told the passengers to de-board.

"We all got off and had to wait for a connecting flight," says Kohler.  He says he waited almost seven hours for return flight to Charlotte.

Kohler says that the other passengers aboard the flight were visibly worried, but most passengers stayed calm throughout the ordeal.

"It's a good relief to be home," he says with a smile.
