New poll shows Americans upset with Congress

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - If Congressional lawmakers were expecting cheers from their constituents for avoiding the debt ceiling deadline and finally striking a deal, they must be sadly disappointed.

A new CBS/New York Times poll finds 82% of Americans disapprove of the way Congress is doing its job. That's the highest disapproval rating since polling began in 1977.  Eighty-seven percent are either dissatisfied or angry with Washington.

The poll comes on the heels of the debt ceiling debacle, and the reason so many Americans are upset is clear. Any economist will tell you the debt deal did very little to fix the country's spending crisis - it shaved just a fraction of the debt economists say we need to.
