CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The sister of a Charlotte businessman who went missing while surfing in Fiji two weeks ago told WBTV she is frustrated by search efforts.

Lisa Ross, sister of Revita Anti-Aging Center CEO Donald Nicholas, said she feels she's not getting full cooperation from folks in Fiji, where her brother first went on a business seminar.

Nicholas, whose company is in Ballantyne, jumped to another island for a vacation where he went on a surfing excursion.

Ross said has no  idea why Don, who she says was a "casual surfer," was even allowed to be on the water as the waves were described as being the highest in nearly 50 years.

The trip out to surf on July 15 had already been canceled twice because of rough waves, Ross said.

When Nicholas got separated from an instructor and another American tourist,  Ross said the rescue effort was botched from the start. Attention was paid to the other tourist who was already in a "safe zone" while Nicholas was struggling to get free of a dangerous spot, Ross said.

Nicholas was visiting Fiji to take part in the "Life and Wealth Mastery" conference with famed-life coach Anthony Robbins. The conference was a seven-day event that started on July 8 and was slated to end on Friday, Robbins' website said.

Conference officials say Nicholas left the conference when it ended and flew to the island of Nadi, Fiji to go surfing. They have been in touch with the American Consulate, Nicholas' family and emergency crews in Nadi.
