DOT to close College Street for bridgework

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The N.C. Department of Transportation will close College Street over I-277 in downtown Charlotte from 8 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. on Saturday.

The nightly closure is scheduled to continue through Thursday morning, July 21, weather permitting.

The closure is part of a bridge painting contract awarded to Seminole Painting of Tarpon Springs, Florida to remove existing paint from the I-277 bridges at College Street, Tryon Street and Church Street.

The contractor must blast off the existing paint from the bridge supports, requiring the following detours:

  • Motorists will take College Street to 11th Street to Caldwell Street to 12th Street back to College Street.
  • Pedestrians will take College Street to 11th Street to Brevard Street to 12th Street back to College Street.

The project is scheduled to be completed October 28.

NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
