mwcglobal.org"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
A common call to action in many of our editorials is for people to get involved.
To Speak Out, to do whatever they can to make our community better.
On July 4th, we saw a great example of that spirit demonstrated by Men Who Care Global...a grassroots organization of African-American men, founded by Charlotte businessman and former City Councilman Ron Leeper.
Adult volunteers wearing bright orange t-shirts hit the streets to help police keep order, and to provide an example of good behavior for teens.
Their greater goal was to help young black men realize there is a better way.
That violence is no answer to difficult circumstances that they may face...or frustrations they may feel.
As they walked down the streets of uptown Charlotte, the volunteers of Men Who Care Global reached out to teens along the way...talking...listening...mentoring.
These simple actions could have profound effects much more far-reaching than keeping peace at an uptown event.
They could open up doors to positive futures these teens never imagined.
If you would like to learn more about their organization, we've put a link on our Speakout page at WBTV dot com.
Strong, positive role models do make a difference.
And we applaud Men Who Care Global for their actions and their contribution to our community.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
