CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Time Warner Cable is adding 225 jobs in Charlotte over the next three years and investing $100 million to build a national data center.
The company and North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue made the announcement Monday after the state promised the company it could pocket almost $3 million in incentives if it meets hiring and investment targets.
Charlotte is adding $2 million in incentives, with the city's chamber of commerce and the state community college system also adding sweeteners.
Governor Bev Perdue wanted to remind everyone that the incentives are necessary, she says, to landing jobs like these.
"Let me remind you again that there is not a fairy up in heaven with a jar of job dust sprinkling it on North Carolina," she said.
Time Warner is the country's second-largest cable operator and employs more than 5,000 people in North Carolina. The new jobs will pay an average of $61,000, more than the Mecklenburg County average of nearly $52,000.
The company plans to build a new office building and data center on its 33-acre campus.
