HUNTERSVILLE, NC (WBTV) - One of the men who accused megachurch pastor Eddie Long of sexual misconduct was arrested on gun and drug charges.

Jamal Parris, 24, faces charges of marijuana distribution and possession, and a felony gun charge after a traffic stop Tuesday night in Miami Beach.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Seth Dubinsky pulled over a white BMW Tuesday night in Miami Beach after noticing the vehicle had no license plate and a worn temporary tag, according to the incident report.

Sgt. Dubinsky said when he approached the car, he smelled a "strong and distinct odor of marijuana," and asked Parris to step out of the car. While searching Parris for weapons, the report said, Parris told the trooper he had a gun inside a bag in the back of the car.

Dubinsky said there was marijuana ash and residue in the car.

An officer assisting during the stop found the unloaded gun in a blue bookbag, the report said. A magazine with live ammunition was also in the bag, Dubinsky wrote in the report.

Also inside the bag, Dubinsky said the officer found 50 small clear zip lock bags "consistent with the supply needed to distribute marijuana. The officer also found 181 grams of suspected marijuana in the trunk, according to the report.

Dubinsky said Parris was also carrying $1,251 in cash.

"The felony marijuana coupled with the numerous clear plastic zip lock bags, and the carious denominations of cash...along with the firearm is indicative of a drug dealer," Dubinsky wrote.

Parris was booked in the Miami-Dade County Jail, but made bail the same night.

Parris is the oldest of 4 men who, in 2010, accused NewBirth Missionary Baptist Church Bishop Eddie Long with abusing his leadership of the church to engage the men in inappropriate sexual relationships.

NewBirth has a satellite church in Huntersville.

In May, Long reached a settlement with Parris and the other accusers for an undisclosed amount of money.

It was being reported that Parris bought the BMW he was driving Tuesday with money from the settlement.
