"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
This week, we completed our third year of SpeakOut Editorials.
As we reach these milestones, we like to remember some of the topics that have been in the news and on our minds.
We questioned the wisdom of Mecklenburg's County Manager receiving a pay raise when those around him struggled to find jobs.
We challenged voter apathy and asked if race in politics is still a big issue.
We railed against repeat drunk drivers being back on the streets, Kyle Busch speeding, and we cautioned against texting while driving.
We've had concerns about the Monroe Bypass and asked, "Why should we add tolls to highway lanes already paid for?"
We looked at Airport security, or lack thereof…and concluded that, ultimately, Rock Hill was correct in its annexation of the Miller Pond neighborhood.
And we've celebrated holidays, veterans, and our citizens who have given tirelessly and unselfishly to making our community a better place in which to live.
But the greatest number of our editorials has had to do with our schools -- budget cuts, closings, make-up days, misplaced lottery funds – you name it.
In fact, we've even suggested "blowing the system up" and starting again from scratch.
As we head into our fourth year of editorials, we encourage you to let us know what's on your mind.
More importantly, let your elected officials know…get involved!
Speak Out, and help make a difference.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
