Girl breaks leg at school, mother blames bully

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte mother fears her daughter's broken leg was no accident.

Norma Nelson says she got a call from Eastway Middle School on Tuesday. "She says she was playing tag - the girl pushed her too hard and it broke her leg," Nelson said.

Nelson says her daughter has had problems in the past with this girl. She says she moved her daughter from one CMS school because of bullying and believes it's happening at Eastway now too.

"The school is saying it was a freak accident but I'm not getting answers on what really happened," Nelson said.

We took Nelson's concerns to CMS.

In a statement they told WBTV:

"All incidents are handled at the school level. Students are disciplined according to the CMS Code of Student Conduct. If this parent has an issue with the way her student was handled, she should take it up with school administrators. If she feels she is not getting the appropriate response with them, she needs to contact the zone office."

Nelson says she has spoken with various folks from the school. But thinks they aren't taking her concerns seriously since her child has had behavior issues in the past.

Nelson says she isn't taking her child back to East Way next year.
