MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina police say a man is recovering from a beating by dozens of men riled after he insulted women and shouted racial slurs. Police were looking for men in the crowd that left the 33-year-old white man unconscious on the sidewalk.

GARDEN CITY, S.C. (AP) - One person is dead and several others needed hospital treatment after a blaze at a three-story house in a South Carolina beach town. The Horry County chief deputy coroner said one person died in yesterday's fire in Garden City. County Assistant Fire Chief Scott Thompson said several people were taken to hospitals.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Coast Guard is looking for the source of pools of thick, purple pollution in Charleston waters. The Coast Guard said yesterday a team was trying to determine the amount and source of the diesel-type pollutants found in three marinas late Saturday. Most of the pollutant had dissipated by yesterday.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina may spend $27 million next fiscal year on continued efforts to secure taxpayers' personal data and provide another year of credit protection following the 2012 hacking at the state's tax collection agency. The state budget may also require all state agencies to adopt cyber-security standards.
