"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was recently clocked doing 128 in a 45 zone.
A citation was issued for speeding, careless, and reckless driving.
He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
And he's since apologized for getting "carried away."
Sorry, Kyle. Apology NOT accepted here.
We know you're famous, but come on. There is no excuse for going 83 mph OVER the speed limit.
That's just stupid.
You recklessly endangered lives – yours…your wife's…and the public.
Just think about what could have happened if someone had wandered onto your path.
We're also bothered by the slap-on-the-wrist citation Mr. Busch received.
Skilled driver or not, his speed of 3 times the limit put him in a position to become a killer.
And to this we say, "Shame on the sheriff's deputy for his poor decision."
Busch should have been taken off the street and given "time out" in jail.
The Iredell Sheriff's Office says it's up to an officer's discretion decides whether or not to jail someone for speeding.
Well let's find out.
I have proper ID….I'm from the area….I'm a low risk to flee.
Let ME drive 128 mph on Perth Road and see what happens.
Kyle, you were lucky. So were those who potentially could have gotten in your way.
Please don't use our public roads for your private test ground.
Stick to the speed limit.
Drive as if you're "under caution."
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
