Around 12:30 Sunday afternoon, swimmers noticed a 3-4 foot shark in the water and alerted others in the area.  Lifeguards at the Springmaid Pier in Myrtle Beach also began asking bathers to stay out of the water.

Participants in the Sun Fun Sea Doo competition on the north side of the pier were not affected by the evacuation.

The waters were cleared for 20-30 minutes before being allowed back in.  No one was reportedly bitten or attacked by the animal.
