As a result of the crash, a detour was set up for traffic heading northbound on the interstate and this detour was expected to remain in place through Wednesday.
Tuesday morning, the South Carolina Department of Transportation reported the northbound lanes between mile markers 92 and 96 had been reopened which is a day earlier than expected.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirms the driver and passenger in the tractor-trailer died in the accident which occurred at 2:36 a.m. on Sunday. They have not released the victims' names.
Workers with the South Carolina Department of Transportation were called to inspect damage to the bridge on Sunday.
Crews worked all day on Monday removing giant concrete sections of the bridge demolished during the collision.
Before the northbound lanes were reopened, traffic was detoured onto SC 11 adding about an extra hour to some residents' commute.
