CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - 50-year-old Gordon McMullen will spend the rest of his life in prison, without the chance for parole.
McMullen killed 92-year-old Mildred Clontz in April of 2008. Police said Clontz had just returned home from church when McMullen forced his way from behind her through a door. He stabbed her repeatedly in her kitchen and took her purse.
Clontz survived for a short time at the hospital, but died from her wounds. She was able to give police a description of the suspect. Prosecutors said McMullen was also tracked through the use of Clontz's credit cards and cell phone.
Clontz grew up in Union County and lived on Knickerbocker Drive in east Charlotte. She was very involved with Midwood Baptist Church.
