CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Mecklenburg County Manager Harry Jones has taken himself out of the running for the same position in Birmingham, Alabama.
Jones was one of the top two finalists.
Commission Chair Jennifer Roberts said board members received an email from Jones saying he was no longer interested in the Birmingham job. Roberts said his email offered no explanation.
Jones traveled to Alabama last week to interview. The job opening comes in the wake of tremendous tornado damage statewide.
Officials down there called it "stepping into the frying pan" because of the current economic situation and rebuilding effort.
