CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte woman was swindled out of more than $2000 when she got caught up in a Mystery Shopper program, police said.

The incident happened during the week of April 20 and was reported on Wednesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a report.

The 51-year-old woman, who lives on Havasu Street, told police she was offered a Mystery Shopper position by the suspect.

A check was then sent to the woman by the Mystery Shopper suspect.

"The victim reported that she was to wire the difference via Western Union and keep some for her services," police said in a report. "The victim has since learned that the check which she received was a fraudulent check."

The woman lost $2,200 in the scam.
