WBTV Speak Out: Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

There are many barometers for determining a "World Class City." One of these is how its citizens take care of their own.

Well, Charlotte will take a giant leap forward in that regard when the new Ronald McDonald House opens on May 9th.

The Ronald McDonald House is a "home away from home" for families of seriously ill children being treated at Presbyterian Hospital or Carolinas Medical Center.

The house includes bedrooms, a kitchen, laundry facilities, and recreational rooms.

More importantly, it will provide information, convenience, and emotional support for its guest families.

It's now here in Charlotte thanks to the efforts of medical, charitable, faith, and business communities…as well as individual donors of five…ten…twenty dollars.

In addition to ongoing financial support, the House will need volunteers of all ages – up to 6000 a year…individuals and groups.

Grand Opening activities go on all next week, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for Friday, May 6th.

On Tuesday or Wednesday, YOU can tour the Ronald McDonald House at 1613 East Morehead Street.

We'd like to thank everyone who has made this much-needed "oasis in times of trouble" a reality.

It's another big step in helping make "The Queen City" a "World Class City."
