CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The sweet Southern onion comes from a distinct region in South Georgia. This time every year, many people can't wait to sink their teeth into the crunchy flesh.
But many people can't seem to all say it the same. From the standard pronunciation that sounds just like it's spelled, "Vidalia", to the more southern influenced pronunciation of Vie-DAY-yuh.
It's interesting to ask around. I went to the Charlotte Farmers Market and found many people purchasing the onions, but all saying it a different way. Watch the video to hear the variety!
