"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Each week, many of you respond to our Speak Out editorials.
We appreciate your time, thought, and effort.
It's also important to let those who make decisions know what you think.
Which is what some fifth and sixth grade students at Kings Mountain Intermediate School have done.
They're very concerned with the impact statewide budget cuts could have on the quality of education.
While they may be too young to vote, they're certainly not too young to get involved.
Which is why they've stayed after school to make this video.
It's a simple video.
No dialogue… just written words.
Each child had input into the message being delivered.
The completed video was sent to the Governor and state legislators.
We hope they'll pay attention.
Now whether or not it changes any minds, MAKING the video was an important learning tool.
As fifth grader Brennin Fleshier* says: "Well, it made me understand more about what was happening and how it could affect me."
It also showed the students they can take a stand…
they can take action…
they can be heard.
If fifth and sixth graders can learn that lesson, the rest of us can, as well.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
